{"id":1226,"date":"2016-03-21T12:37:02","date_gmt":"2016-03-21T12:37:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelrowe01.com\/?p=1226"},"modified":"2022-12-15T06:46:30","modified_gmt":"2022-12-15T11:46:30","slug":"comments-and-spam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelrowe01.com\/index.php\/blog\/comments-and-spam\/","title":{"rendered":"Comments and Spam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One thing I have done for my blogs is automatically turn off comments after a short period of time. \u00a0This may cut down interaction a lot, but I feel that it is necessary. \u00a0Let me explain why.<\/p>\n<p>Years ago I had a podcast called DogearNation. \u00a0We based this podcast on the very popular DiggNation podcast&#8230; Meaning we found cool links people posted on social media, and talked about them. \u00a0The cool thing about this model was that we had tons of content, which caused a ton of interaction with our site. \u00a0This content had a long shelf life, and people would find both the podcast and website for a very long time. \u00a0The problem was, since the content was long lived, comments were used by spammers to post links for phishing and other problems.<\/p>\n<p>I have since changed all my blogs so that comments are enabled only for a few weeks.
